The Scottish tech scene’s hottest stories from last week
The Scottish tech scene is evolving at a rate of knots and it’s already been confirmed that Edinburgh is Scotland’s foremost tech hub so, having recently established an office near to this dynamic tech location, here are our four hot news stories from the past week:
- Spherical projection specialist Pufferfish developing an interactive globe-like display screen that could mean more job creation within the company, which is 12 years old this year and currently employs 13 talented individuals at its base in the Scottish capital. The company’s investment in new employees will double its current workforce to 26 within the next year to help create satellite offices for international client support – driving further expansion.
- Glasgow’s first ever IoT Boost UK event, a two day workshop that saw eighteen small firms go head-to-head in front of a panel of judges to compete for one month of incubation support and mentoring helping them to bring their “internet of things” (IoT) technology to market.
- A second event to take note of was Edinburgh’s Cyber Security 2016, which saw cyber security experts and infosec peers get together to discuss how to improve protection against security breaches and what resources are available for individuals, businesses etc to build a cyber resilient society.
- No hot topic tech scene post would be complete without at least one mention of the great white unicorn, Skyscanner! This week, the online travel search provider revealed soaring revenue of 28 per cent on last year – showing that Scottish tech is certainly taking flight.
