Getting technology products reviewed can sometimes be challenging. You need to make sure that whatever you do, you find someone who accepts products to review, interest them in your device, then send them the product and supporting information, and be ready to help throughout the review process. If that’s something you want to do, then read on, as we talk you through the process.
Research and find a blogger/journalist
One of the first things you’ll need to do in order to get your technology reviewed is to find a blogger/journalist who is prepared to write a review. Looking around on the internet, you may start by researching where your competitor's products are reviewed and/or you may use a media database which lists lots of potential targets. You'll need to compile a list of potential reviewers. It’s important to try and choose someone who has experience of reviewing technology products. You'll want to speak to Youtubers too to get as broad a range of choices as possible.
Create a product sheet
The next thing you’ll need to do is to create a product sheet to give to the reviewer, so they have background information, such as an overview of the technology, product specifications, along with the retail price, or the price you’re selling it for, and stockist details. An important point to keep in mind is that the more details you can provide, the more comprehensive the review can be.
Provide some good photography
Lots of high quality reviews have photographs in them to demonstrate to the readers exactly what the product looks like and what some of its features are. Ideally the reviewer will take their own, but often they will want you to send pictures. Images of the technology from different angles is advised, as well as images of the technology in use during someone’s daily life - called lifestyle images. Cut out technology can sometimes be effective with photos of your technology, because it helps to emphasise the technology itself. Oh and remember the size, 300 dpi and above for print magazines.
Approach your targets
Once you have your background information in place and research, then it's time to get in touch with your targets. Once they express interest, you’ll need to send them the product for review. When it has been shipped across, you should check in with the reviewer to see that the experience is going smoothly and then make sure they’ve got everything they need.
Some reviewers, though not from the larger publications or websites, will want to be paid in return for a write up, either in product or a financial contribution, this is really a sponsorship deal. If that's the case, you can provide details how you want the review to be laid out, the tone of voice you want, as well as a word count.
On a final note, monitor for coverage, look out for stars, eg 4/5 stars, product of the month. Also check into your analytics to see if the review has a positive effect on traffic, so that you can maybe go back to reviewers that generate traffic at another date and offer an update.
Overall, getting your technology reviewed is not as difficult as you’d think, and is actually a fairly straightforward process. If you’re looking to get your technology reviewed, get in touch.
