We’re constantly looking for ways to reinforce our clients’ position as leaders in their industry. A great way to do this is to comment on ‘Issues of the Day’.
How do we do this? Two techniques that we use are:
- Daily news scanning where we scan the news for breaking stories which our clients can then provide expert and insightful comments or opinions on.
- Keeping our contacts live we are constantly talking to journalists, either pitching new stories, or following up on interviews, articles, releases or features and we keep our ear to the ground in these conversations for any hint of breaking news. And, if a story is breaking as we are on the telephone with a journalist, we ensure that, where relevant, our clients provide up to the minute expert opinion. How? We ensure that our client becomes a positive part of the breaking news story by working with them to draft insightful opinions on the given issue and then make sure that these expert comments hit the right desk as the news breaks.
EBay – gaining our client valuable ‘thought leadership’ coverage by providing up to the minute expert comment on the “Issue of the Day”. How did we do it?
Whilst on an update call with a key journalist we got a sniff of the EBay user data breach. One of our clients is a cyber security specialist and we worked to quickly get his comments on this specific hack. As a result were able to provide key journalists with insightful opinion from a cyber crime expert as they were writing their news, gaining our client prime coverage in heavyweight media including BBC News, Internet Retailer, Global News, Threatpost and SC Magazine. We also followed up by securing best practice advice articles on protecting e-commerce websites, including Internet Retailer.
